ISOI3, Comment Spam, and More Storm

September 3rd, 2007 by Steven Adair

Well I am back from my mini-vacation to Florida this past weekend and finally have some time at the machine to post. This past week I was at the Internet Security Operations and Intelligence III (ISOI3) conference. There were a lot of great presentations and topics that were discussed that were quit interesting. Of course I thought the Shadowserver Foundation presentation was excellent. Check out the website.

Now I know my website is pretty new and I am just starting to build content. I also have a relatively small readership right now, but someone of you come back over and over and the rest of you usually end up on here in a number of different methods. However, I have yet to receive a *real* comment yet on any of my postings. Thus far I’ve only received odd spam/jibberish comments, primarily originating from Chinese IP space. These comments primarily appear as just random alphanumeric characters and seem to be just jibberish. My guess is that they are just checking if my comments are moderated. Anyway, if you have a comment or something you would like to share (besides spam/jibberish), feel free to do so.

Last but not least is the interesting new piece of Storm Worm malware I have received. Just a few hours ago I got one tailored towards Labor Day. How exciting..the subject of this e-mail was “Your Friend Sends A Labor Day Greeting” and the body looked a little something like this:

Someone has sent you an E-Card. To view it, follow this link: http://msn.com/digcard/holidaygreetings?nz4afj02rx6l4zvugtzf

Now of couse the link didn’t really go to MSN. It was just a link to an IP address on some poor sap’s infected machine. Well, have a good holiday (if applicable) and check back soon for updates.
